2008 Season

Join us this season for a delightful and evocative journey through award-winning playwright Arlene Hutton’s The Nibroc Trilogy. The New Main Street Theater brings you all three plays in Hutton’s touching saga beginning with Last Train to Nibroc (November 2007) , See Rock City (February 2008) and Gulf View Drive (May 2008).

These three plays pay tribute to a time and place we long to resurrect. May and Raleigh meet on a train as WWII begins, and in the second and third plays we follow their story all the way to post-war America and the early 50’s. This unadorned love story with prickly mothers-in-law, “lemony flat pie” and the scars of war is told with grace, wit and insight.

Last Train to Nibroc - November 2007 at The Deep River Town Hall Theater, Deep River, CT.
The first play in the trilogy finds May and Raleigh sharing a seat on a crowded eastbound train...it’s a funny, electric and surprising ride. Although WW II has just begun, it has already changed their lives.

See Rock City - February 2008 at the Deep River Town Hall Theater in Deep River, CT.
In the second play of the trilogy the young couple faces unexpected fallout despite victory overseas. It’s a funny and surprising romance but Raleigh and May are brave enough to face hidden truths.

Gulf View Drive - May 2008 at the Chester Meeting House, Chester, CT.
The third play in the trilogy places May and Raleigh 10 years into their marriage. It’s the early 1950’s. Things get rocky on the sandy beach of their Gulf Coast Florida home as one relative after another moves in, testing their dreams, independence and love.
